S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK is launching an open call for artists who want to take part in its program of 10 cross-residencies to be held in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
The residency program invites artists to develop innovative projects that merge cutting-edge and traditional technologies with ancestral knowledge, addressing regional ecosystems and fostering a critical, inclusive, and sustainable dialogue between the arts, sciences, technologies, innovation, and cultural values.

Each residency will last five months and take place between August 2025 and January 2026 (with a minimum on-site stay of 4 weeks). The program offers a rich ecosystem of support for selected artists: European and regional cultural, scientific, technological, and academic organizations, translocal experts, local communities, and other stakeholders, with the goal of promoting collaboration around situated themes.

Application process
Proposals for the S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK residency program must be submitted through the online application form.
The online application form includes:

• Artistic portfolio (PDF to upload)

All components of the application form must be submitted.

• April 15, 2025: Call for proposals published

• April 24, 2025, 15:30 CET: Info session (in English)

• May 6, 2025, 15:30 CET: Info session (in Spanish)

• May 27, 2025, 17:00 CET: Deadline to submit proposals

• June 13, 2025: Selection of 30 preselected artists

• June 25 to July 2, 2025: Jury Day and interviews with preselected artists

• July 7, 2025: Announcement of selected artists

• August 2025: Start of the Buen-TEK residency program

What do we offer?

• A grant of €20,000.00

• Accommodation for at least four weeks at the host organization

• Coordination, guidance and support throughout the residency

• Mentoring from translocal experts

• Access to scientific and technological knowledge provided by the host organizations

• Participation in the S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK community and peer-learning activities

• Participation in public outreach events

What are we looking for?
S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK encourages artists to propose projects that address regional challenges through artistic experimentation and the conceptual frameworks of Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK. Priority will be given to projects that:

• Develop the Buen-TEK conceptual framework through artistic experimentation

• Tackle specific topics proposed by the Twins, linked to regional ecosystems

• Foster a critical use of local and traditional technologies such as AI, computational systems, data visualization, etc.

• Learn from ancestral knowledge and use technology in a way that respects human and more-than-human life

• Take a practical and situated approach

Who can apply?
Residencies are open to artists who are nationals or residents of eligible South American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay). Artistic companies, collectives or associations are also eligible.

Applicants must:

• Be nationals or permanent residents of one of the eligible countries

• Have a company, collective or association based in an eligible country

• Provide a valid residence permit or passport

• Not be affiliated with any organization in the Buen-TEK Consortium or any Twin or related entities

• Not receive more than one S+T+ARTS grant in 2025

Expected outcomes
Outcomes may include:

• Artistic outputs: Artworks, installations, technological prototypes, community projects

• Research outcomes: Publications, development of new theoretical frameworks or interdisciplinary research methods

• Collective practices: New interdisciplinary knowledge, methodologies, and emerging disciplines
